Kids remember everything

Just a quick disclaimer here…lol…So I’m doing terrible posting on Tuesdays and Thursdays like I said I would so I’m just going to post when I can or when I’m in a writing mood. So it could be more or less frequent. That’s more my style anyway!

My daughter is only two. She just turned two but she literally remembers everything. We went to Walmart yesterday morning because they have a vision center that we wanted to inquire about. After we did that we walked around Walmart for a few minutes. We came across some Mother’s Day gifts and M (my daughter) spied a stuffed owl. She loves ooo ooo’s as she calls them so I let her hold it for a minute. I asked her what color the owl was and she said puhple. Then we put it back and went on our merry way.

Later that night at dinner we were recapping our day. I thought of the owl and wanted to see if she’d remember. I asked her what we saw at Walmart that day and she said “ooo ooo” so I said and what color was the owl? And she promptly responded “puhple”.

I thought it was so amazing that she could remember such a small part of our day that had happened in a matter of probably 3 minutes. I mean I know kids are little sponges but it’s always cool to see their brain development in action. This was just a small example but made me think about how exciting life is to our littles. As adults we tend to glaze over the little things we love and turn on our autopilot brains just to get thru the day. I want to try and be more present like my daughter and enjoy the little things because there’s a good chance she will remember that about me one day!

Gloomy But Happy

It’s been so gloomy lately. Lots of rain and snow and gray skies. Sometimes it’s so hard to be happy on these days. My mood is definitely not great on rainy gloomy days.

As I was watching my little one looking out the window I noticed she wasn’t affected in a bad way at all by the rain. In fact it brought a smile to her face. She started saying “Peppa boot Peppa boot!” I knew right away what she meant. I just got her a pair of rubber rain boots because every time we are leaving to go somewhere and it’s rainy, she wants to splash in the muddy puddles like Peppa pig does. I usually can’t let her because her shoes are too low or the fabric would just get soaked all the way through so the new rain boots have become her favorite thing.

Anyway, before I go off onto a totally different topic (I tend to do that and forget my point completely) her ability to be able to be positive about something that’s usually a negative, such as a rainy day, was so refreshing. As a child we don’t really know negativity, it’s learned over time which is kind of sad. I could stand to learn a thing or two by watching my littles and turning negatives into positives. It’s easier said than done, I know, but these moments give me hope!
